Description
EIFS Base Coat Adhesive
EIFS Base Coat adhesive is designed to be used as an adhesive and base coat in stucco. It requires water only and will cure to a long-lasting coating with great bonding qualities. The Dry-Mix is equal to Wet Base Coat which is used as a base to embed reinforcing mesh in various Systems and as a leveling coat for masonry, concrete, or stucco surfaces.
Packaging- 50 lbs. (22.6 kg) per bag.
Coverage
1. When EIFS Base Coat adhesive is applied as an adhesive using a 3/8” x 3/8” x 3/8” notched trowel to adhere expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation board to suitable substrates (70-80 sq/ft) per bag.
2. When applied as a EIFS Base Coat adhesive for embedding of Reinforcing Mesh expect:
4.3oz = 130-140 sq/ft per bag
15oz = 90-100 sq/ft per bag
20oz = 70-80 sq/ft per bag
3. When applied as a leveling coat coverage depends on the thickness applied.
Note: Coverage may vary depending on job conditions and applicator.
Mixing
Use a clean empty 5 gallon. Do not use a container which has contained or been cleaned with a petroleum based product. 1. Empty the contents of 1 Dry mix EIFS Base Coat adhesive. 2. Add approximately 1 1/4 gallons of clean water per bag of Dry Mix Base Coat. 3. Stir well with a drill mixer until a uniform consistency is achieved. 4. Let stand 5-10 minutes. 5. After initial set re-stir. Let stand 5-10 minutes.
Note: Over-mixing will cause faster set time for Portland cement and reduce working time. No other additives or materials of any kind shall be added under any circumstances.

Shelf Life
Dry EIFS Base Coat adhesive is good for six (6) months if stored off the ground in a dry area. High humidity will reduce the shelf life.
Surface Preparation
For adhesive application.
The substrate must be sound and free of paint and residue. Concrete and brick substrates must be flat within 1/4” in 10 feet.
For base coat application with EPS.
The insulation board must be attached completely to the substrate . All gaps greater than 1/8” between insulation boards must be filled with EPS. Rasp the entire wall to a flat surface within 1/4” in 10 feet. Groove all aesthetic joints and EPS details after rasping. Painted substrates shall have 90% of the paint removed.
Approved Substrates
As a Base Coat with embedded reinforcing mesh. Dry mix EIFS Base Coat adhesive may be applied over Cement Board and EPS. As an Adhesive Dry-Mix EIFS Base Coat Adhesive EPS may be used to bond to concrete block, gypsum sheathing cement board and stucco. DO NOT use over wood products or painted surfaces.
5. Note: Over-mixing will cause faster set time for Portland cement and reduce working time. No other additives or materials of any kind shall be added under any circumstances.
Working Time
Pot life for Dry mix EIFS Base Coat adhesive is about 1 hour after water is added to the mix. Contents should be completely applied within one hour after mixing. Bond strength is achieved in one to four days, depending on weather conditions.
Application Directions
As an adhesive:
Substrate shall be of a type approved by Facades. Substrate shall be dry, clean, sound and free residue or coatings.
1. Apply Dry mix EIFS Base Coat adhesive to the entire surface of EPS with a notched trial.
2. Slide EPS into place and apply pressure over entire surface of the board to ensure uniform bond.
3. Be sure all joints are tight. ensure overall flush level of the surface. fill all gaps between EPS board with EPS.
4. Allow installation of EPS to set 24 hours prior to applying Dry mix EIFS Base Coat adhesive.
Note: Apply EPS board horizontally across entire wall staggering vertical joints.
As a base coat:
Apply Dry mix EIFS Base Coat adhesive with a stainless steel trowel to a uniform minimum thickness of 1/16”. Work in widths of Reinforcing Mesh immediately embed mesh into base coat so that the mesh pattern is not visible.
