EIFS Stucco Notched Trowel

Have you ever wondered how does a tile is being applied to the floors? An adhesive or cement is being applied to the surface before the tile is being applied. Do you know the tool that is being used to apply smoothly the adhesive? Some people might not be very particular with the names of a tool that they used. But some reasons, it is nice that you know its name. Before tiles are being applied to the desired surface, an EIFS stucco notched trowel is the tool used to smoothen or comb the adhesives.

The EIFS stucco notched trowel is mostly made from steel and other similar metal materials. But today, there is notched trowel that is being made from plastic. This plastic type is cheaper in price compared to the metal ones. But it is suitable to use if you will just finish a single project or single application. But if not, the metal one is still the advisable type to do the job. All you need to do is wash the adhesive remains from the notched trowel after every use. There are two shapes of notches. It comes in a “V” or square shape of notches.

• The V shape notched trowels are used to comb setting materials and adhesives for vertical surfaces only.
• The Square notched trowel is used for horizontal surfaces also.

It is for the main reason that tiles comes in different thickness. And the tile’s thickness is also the basis for the depth of notched trowel that you will use.

Important tip: to make sure that the adhesive being applied is in its correct amount, you need to use an EIFS stucco notched trowel that is about two-thirds of the depth of the tile that you are going to work on it.

And now that you have already with you your very own notched trowel, then it is the time to use it. Here are the simple steps that you can take:

1. Using the narrow edge of the tool, apply the adhesive by scooping out the adhesive and drop it on the surface.
2. Comb the area after you already dropped the adhesive. This will enable you to know whether you have applied the correct amount of adhesive.
3. Smooth lightly the adhesive to make sure that you have consistently created the base of the adhesive. Use the flat side of the trowel.
4. Scrape the too much adhesive from the surface.
5. Apply the tile to the surface. Put some pressure in placing the tile so that it will touch the base of the adhesive and it will be attached on the surface.
